THE ‘GIVING AWAY’


I do write quite a lot of Poems for couples for their weddings. Often, the subject of the "Giving Away of the Bride" sparks emotion and sentiment in the reluctant Father of the Bride.  No Father really ever wants to Give his Little Girl away...not really. This thinking sparked the following for a Special couple. 



 THE ‘GIVING AWAY’

At Last you take that walk, down the proverbial aisle,
My little girl with your new idol,
The Little girl who I watched grow up,
Playing netball and eating Chuppa Chups.

When you were born, like a pink toy, I held you,
And over all the years, and many tears,
Through tantrums and the childish fears,
I protected you.

Now on this, your Wedding day,
I am here, they say, To Give away,
My Little Girl.
Into the protection of your Husband,
The Man you promise to Love forever.

And a good Man he is, And I know him well,
I know that his Love for You is like a well,
So deep, so full , so Full of Life,
Today in taking you for his Wife,
He takes that new role, 
of Protector.

Yes, today, I bring you here to Marry,
And my Life long Blessing, Always carry,
I know you both deserve the best,
and yes,
I don’t give my little girl away , 
Exactly

Today, I give this young Woman, to her Man,
To Love and protect, forever, And
As you both grow in Love throughout Life,
Through The Ups and Downs of being Husband and Wife,
Remember, I am here for you anyway

Whatever Life brings, and above everything,
Enjoy the adventure, enjoy your Life,

I hand over now, to the new Husband and Wife.

As a matter of research into my book about  fun Wedding Ceremonies ( which is titled How to Have Fun Getting Married , due to be released in 2 weeks) I have undertaken some extensive research into the Marriage game. Along the journey,  it reminded me of a book I purchased for Ms. SaidByNed when we first moved in together some 15 years ago. The book titled The Beginner Housewife by Phyllis Harker was first published in 1956. I just must share some of Phyllis' advice. Phyliss plans out a full day in 15 minute increments, beginning at 6.50am, going to bathroom, brushing hair, apply make-up. Between 7.30 am and 8 a.m Phyliss suggests any bride make up a list of the days work which should include at least the following: Wash up Make Beds Washing ( own undies , blouse etc!) The Tram Sandwich

The Tram Sandwich I don’t often travel on a tram in Melbourne but on this day I was headed to St Kilda and decided to catch the 89. As it clattered its way toward my stop, I was feeling almost dizzy, overwhelmed by the exotic sights and sounds of Melbourne, the multicultural colours and sounds of the people in their array of international attire surrounding me at every turn. I climbed on board and quickly decided upon a seat near the front. Sitting down pensively I exchanged glances with the young couple sitting opposite. They seemed to be looking into me, wondering. I gave them a tiny smile before glancing down at my travelling companion, sitting on the seat beside me. ‘I wonder where he is going’ I stated out loud to the couple, tilting my head toward the companion on my right. What I Remember of 2017 ( Whenever that was )

Where did 2000 and seventeen go? What really happened I would like to know. Xmas went , the New Year began, Cant remember if it was with a bang. I think summer was hot, or did it pass by, Was it real long, or was it just dry? Should keep a diary but what is the point, The reading will probably only disappoint. Did Trump really say his button is bigger? Waiting by day with his finger on the trigger. I remember turning on the morning news, Each day wondering if he had blown a fuse.
